Why We Joined Rotary?

Current Club President (2025-26)
Marla McGee
I joined Rotary when I worked for a non- profit because they felt it would be a good way for me to network within the community. When I saw the 4 way test of the things we think, say and do, it resonatesd with me because those principles are how I was raised. I ended up falling in love with Rotary and plan on remaining a member for the rest of my life.

I joined Rotary in 1996 upon becoming Superintendent of the Fountain Valley School District. I was encouraged to join because Rotary served our community, the same community where our schools operated. I quickly fell in love with the Rotary’s mission and especially the four way test. Living our lives through our commitment to truth, fairness, good will and building positive friendships is the key to a successful future for ourselves and those we hold dear. . I have been a Rotarian now for nearly 30 years and look back on my experience with the Fountain Valley Rotary Club as one of the highlights of my life.

I joined Rotary in 2016(?) to give back to the community through Service, and Rotary is one way for me to do that at a community level, as well as at an international level around the world. I find these different levels of service very exciting. My brother older brother has been a Rotarian for over 35 years, and I was able to see the benefits of Rotary service and fellowship attending events with him and has club before I joined. Rotary opens the doors to many forms of service locally in our community, within our schools and local community events, and fellowship around the world, though the international projects and conferences. I love this two pronged aspect to Rotary as an organization, and for me Rotary has become as part of my life, for life.

I joined Rotary because even though my personal life was really good I felt like something was missing. I wanted to find a way to help our community and a lot of the people in it. Well I can tell you after being a FV Rotarian for 28 years it has been a very rewarding experience and we have definitely helped our community in some many ways especially the FV Schools.Rotary is a way of life for those that choose it!
